About this grant

The NCDOT Multimodal Planning Grant Initiative funds municipalities and counties to develop comprehensive bicycle and/or pedestrian network plans, including network maps, priority project cutsheets with planning-level cost estimates, and implementation plans. The program helps communities set a vision for active transportation, identify priority projects, and coordinate needs with regional planning organizations and NCDOT.

Eligibility details

  • Notes: Municipalities and counties in North Carolina. Counties with a population under 100,000 are eligible to apply for a Stand-alone Bicycle Plan, Stand-alone Pedestrian Plan, Plan Update, or Multimodal Network Plan; counties over 100,000 are not eligible. Best suited to municipalities without an existing bicycle/pedestrian plan or whose plan is at least five years old. Plan type eligibility depends on population size and whether fixed-route or deviated fixed-route transit service exists.
