About this grant
The Rural Demolition Program provides grants to local governments to demolish blighted, publicly owned buildings to encourage site redevelopment for economic development purposes. Funds may only be used for demolition and removal of the building, and the site must be made ready for development.
Eligibility details
- Notes: Eligible applicants are units of local government located in Tier 1 or Tier 2 counties, or within a rural census tract in a Tier 3 county (population density under 500 people per square mile). The local government must own the property, the building must have been vacant for three years, the property may not be used for government/public use, parking, recreation, or housing for three years after award, the local government must provide at least 25% cash match from local resources, and there must be reasonable expectation of private investment and job creation. Residential-zoned properties are ineligible.
